Class Parents

EXPLANATION OF CLASS PARENT DUTIES

Grades K-1:

Class parents for grades K and 1 involve more time than the older grades but are wonderfully satisfying. Class parents will help in the preparation of incredible parties and special events. These two grades will also need plenty of class helpers to make their activities a success. The teacher will guide you with what will be needed during the class year.

Grades 2-7:

Parties in these grades don’t need quite as much parental involvement as the younger grades but help is still appreciated. Class parents will collect donations of money and/or treats from parents in their class and help with setup, cleanup and other activities for the children. Talk to the teacher about ideas for crafts or other activities to give the students a fun time. Your teacher will also need help with the class fundraiser to raise money toward your child’s eighth grade class trip.

Grade 8:

This grade is a little different. Two class parents directly assist the teacher, but ALL parents are part of the Eighth Grade Parent Committee. Parents will plan parties and run fundraising activities that are the last chance to defray the cost of the eighth grade class trip that takes place in the spring. All 8th grade STUDENTS are also expected to participate.

CLASS PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Make emergency phone calls related to school activities. (School closings, delayed openings, etc.)

  2. Organize class parties for holidays and special events. Discuss plans and ideas with the teacher first. Be sure to include other parent helpers in the activities; everyone wants a chance to be with the children.

  3. Chaperone class trips according to the teacher’s needs.

  4. Contact parents to contribute refreshments for class events and PTA events when needed.

  5. Help with the spring Gift Auction, the PTA’s major fundraiser.

    • Contact parents about selling tickets, donating prizes and assisting with the tremendous amount of work (and fun!) of putting together a successful Gift Auction.

    • Choose a theme and put together a Class Basket using donations from fellow parents. (More info will be given to you about this.)

    • Help wrap other baskets to be auctioned off at the Gift Auction.

    • Help set up tables and baskets on the day of (or day before) the Gift Auction.

    • Organize parents from your class to “run” the gifts during the Gift Auction.

  6. Help with the PTA school picnic on the last day of school in June.
  7. Coordinate the year-end gift to your teacher (if your class opts to give a gift from the entire class instead of individual gifts).

The PTA encourages all parents with even a small amount of time to offer to get involved with their children’s activities. The children love seeing the parents and you will be making wonderful memories for you both.

Class parents work very hard, giving of their time and energy, to provide all of our children with an enjoyable school year. When notices are sent home asking for your help or a donation, PLEASE remember it is for your child and respond as generously and as promptly as possible.
