Gym Class News
Grades K&3
The students are involved with exploratory movement used in tag games and tumbling. Hand/eye/foot coordination is measured in various tasks using balls or beanie babies. What is strongly emphasized is learning to take turns, encouraging others to try the task and to keep safety rules the number one priority.
Grades 4-7
More team orientated sports are played. Rules, sportsmanship and safety are highly stressed. Positive feedback is given from teacher to pupil to elevate pupil’s level of skill and comprehension. The last two years classes have incorporated more cooperative education. About twice a month students engage in problem solving tasks emphasizing physical strength and their mental thought process such as scavenger hunts, pyramid building and theoretical situations. These activities trigger students to recognize strengths and weaknesses within the group and how they can overcome obstacles to complete the task effectively.
