Can you believe it is almost the summer again!? It means all sorts of fun at the library.
Maybe you have teens interested in volunteering at the library. We are happy to let you know that SAIL applications are available for summer 2018.
S.A.I.L. (Service & Achievement in the Library) is a summer volunteer program open to teens who will be entering the 8th grade through 12th grade. Volunteering to participate in S.A.I.L. provides an opportunity for teens to learn about the library, how it works and the Library Profession. Furthermore, it serves as a pre-employment opportunity as well, i.e. must show up on time for scheduled days, wear a uniform (SAIL t-shirt and ID badge), and follow directions. The is available online at http://theoceancountylibrary.org/teens/SAIL.
Additionally, for our younger library visitors, we have a reading support program called Reading Buddies. It is for children going into grades 1-4. During the program a Teen Buddy is paired with a Kid Buddy. The pair do lots of getting-to-know-you activities and pick out books to read together for a set amount of time. The Reading Buddies program supports listening and oral reading practice; it increases a child’s interest in reading and books and supports teen volunteerism. As an added bonus, upon completion of the program, each child receives a Reading Buddy certificate! The online application can be found at: http://theoceancountylibrary.org/teens/reading-buddies.
